Anyone who's watched television in the last 10 years knows Joanna Gaines and her family and I am no different. I watched (and now re-watch!) her renovation show and now I watch the Magnolia Network. I made the trek to the Silos a couple of years ago but did not have time to go to the Magnolia Table restaurant but hope to the next time in am in Waco. I was able to visit the bakery tho and bought all kinds of goodies that were very yummy. The coffee shop was under construction when I was there but I would love to visit that too. I love that she has a cooking show as I enjoy pretty much any cooking show and I enjoy her show. I bought the Magnolia Table cookbook when it first came out and everything I've tried has been great. I very much enjoyed just reading this cookbook as she tells the story of each recipe. Here are my favorites.
JoJo's Biscuits-You cannot talk about this cookbook without talking about the biscuits. I've made them a million times and they do not disappoint. One thing I love is that Joanna tells you how to freeze them raw and then you can bake them off as needed. When you are only cooking for one or two, this tip is very helpful! I've had these with gravy, homemade strawberry jelly or just butter and I like them. I never made biscuits growing up and have tried a lot of recipes thru the years and this one is great.
Chicken Pot Pie-As childhood favorite of mine, I had to try the Chicken Pot Pie. This is just a little different from what my mom made but it was , nonetheless, great. Always a great family dinner, you can never go wrong with Chicken Pot Pie.
Blackened Fish Tacos-My husband loves fish tacos of any sort so I had to try this recipe. We usually use mahi-mahi for our fish tacos and get the frozen mahi from Costco. This has a great cabbage and mango slaw for the tacos which had great flavor.
Beef Enchiladas-The hubs loves enchiladas so this was another must-try. Enchiladas of any sort are awesome. This recipe has ground beef but I'm sure you could use ground turkey or chicken as well.
Broiled Honey-Thyme Peaches-This dessert is so easy and a perfect thing to try during peach season. It was sooo good. Vanilla ice cream over warm peaches with a balsalmic drizzle?? Oh my goodness.
Strawberry Shortcake-If you are making those biscuits, do yourself a favor and make strawberry shortcake too. Another childhood fav, my mom make the best strawberry shortcake and I make it the way she did. She made her shortcakes from Bisquick so this recipe speaks to my nostalgia for this dessert.
Chocolate Chip Cookies-Of course I had to try this cookie recipe and I too started out making the classic Tollhouse recipe. Did you know that the original Toll House Inn was in Whitman, MA south of Boston, was on a former toll road (hence the name) and was opened in the 1930's? Ruth and Kenneth Wakefield opened the Inn and she became famous for her desserts. The Inn is long gone now but how great is the legacy of Ruth Wakefield and the Toll House cookie?
Overnight French Toast-Who doesn't love an overnight recipe? When you have company, this is a great thing to make the night before and pop in the oven the next morning. It has to bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the morning so you will have time to get the coffee going, set the table and chat with your company. I would think you could throw some blueberries on top before you bake it or serve with fresh blueberries and syrup. Anything goes!
Sausage and Kale Soup-I like kale in soup so had to try this one. And smoked sausage in soup-yes please. I'm a sucker for good soup in the fall and winter and this one made it in the rotation.
Meat Loaf-There are so may meatloaf recipes out there and I feel like I've tried a million of them. This one turned out delish and gives my husband the leftovers he need for lunch the next day.
So there you are, 10 great recipes from Volume 1. Enjoy. Here's an affiliate link for the book if you don't have one yet. https://a.co/d/gnY4njj
